Earn More Scorecard Points: Join Smoking Quitline for Free

From now until Dec. 31, 2008, U.S. employees can join the American Cancer Society (ACS) Quitline at no cost. The usual $100 counseling fee is being waived to encourage greater participation in time for the 2009 personal scorecard. For this limited time, the program is absolutely free!
Why the Quitline Works
The Quitline has been proven to help tobacco users quit for good. In fact, people who use telephone counseling stop smoking at twice the rate of those who don't.
The program includes:
- Telephonic counseling: five sessions over several weeks with a trained counselor to assist you in quitting your tobacco habit. Your assigned counselor helps you develop a method that will help you to quit. People who use telephonic counseling stop using tobacco at four times the rate of those who don't.
- Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) as indicated by the counselor. Nicotine replacement includes up to an eight-week supply of gum, lozenges or patches, up to two times in a 12-month period. You must be considered a candidate for NRT and first complete a minimum number of counseling sessions.
Get Scorecard Credit
If you use tobacco, now is the time to join the Quitline. The 2009 personal scorecard provides 20 points - or one-fifth of your total score - if you haven't used tobacco in the past 12 months, or you have completed the Quitline program before submitting your scorecard.
