Healthier "Balanced Choices" Coming to Vending Machines
Many of us fall
victim to the old 3 p.m. urge the need to hit a vending machine
for some munchies. By then, it's been a few hours since lunch and
we're beginning to feel the first twinges of dinnertime hunger.
For others, a vending visit might be prompted by stress or a busy
work schedule and skipped meals. Regardless of why you're drawn
to the vending machine, most often what you find inside is, well,
just junk.
Soda, potato
chips, chocolate bars, cookies and candies may appeal to your taste
buds, but they aren't going to do the rest of your body any favors.
And if you are trying to lose a few pounds or need to be careful
about what you eat due to a medical condition, the vending area
can be either useless or worse a tempting excuse to
stray from your diet.
American
Standard's recently launched LifeSteps program is designed to provide
resources that can help us lead healthier lives. As part of this
program, we're bringing a change to our vending machines. Between
now and October 1, the machines in most of our facilities will now
offer "Balanced Choices." Alongside the chips and candy,
you'll find products that are:
- Low carb,
- Low fat or
fat free,
- Sugar free,
- Caffeine
free,
- Vitamin enriched.
You'll also
find healthier, hydrating beverages in addition to colas and other
sodas. And early next year, we'll introduce healther hot foods in
many of our on-site cafeterias, too.
So, the next
time you feel your stomach growl in the late afternoon, hit the
vending machine and have a healthy snack. Then take advantage of
the many other resources that LifeSteps has to offer! They are all
part of our company's commitment to providing educational tools
and resources that help you and your family take personal responsibility
for your health and well-being.
